Radio 3s Musical Map
A geolocated CMS for a one-off radio feature.
BBC Radio 3’s Breakfast Show devised a feature in which they wanted to “map the music of Great Britain“. They’d ask the audience to send in details of orchestras, bands, choirs, and the like from around the British isles - and then they’d display it online.
Steve Bowbrick, head of digital at Radio 3, asked me to help build an interactive map to display this information. Over the course of a few days, I built a simple CMS that stored both content and latitude/longitude information, and plotted each category of points on a map. Maps were embedded using Leaflet and CloudMade tiles. I also supplied IFRAME embed code so that the maps could easily be integrated with the BBC’s blogging platform.
